First Team Toys for Tots event at the Clearbrook Walmart
On December 10, First Team along with The Marines, K92 Radio, and Virginia Fit Body Camp helped get the word out to get as many toys as possible for this great community program! In addition, First Team donated new bikes for the drive.
K92's Freddy Mac was on-site doing live remote announcements to the K92 listening audience during the event. The Marines had additional donation boxes for Walmart shoppers and K92 listeners to donate during the remote event.

We were very happy to be part of this great event and help Toys for Tots get dozens of new toys for children in need in our community. Thank you to everyone who help and donated!

First Team Loves to Care
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

First Team and retailers nationwide are partnering up with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society(LLS) to spread love and warmth to children and adults that are undergoing cancer treatment.  Every 3 minutes one person in the US is diagnosed with blood cancer.  Leukemia is the most common form of cancer in children, and First Team is proud to be more involved in these people's lives and let them know that we care.

In June, First Team and LLS delivered blankets, arts & crafts kits and message of hope cards to those fighting cancer.  In-store and via website, customers signed the message of hope cards showing how much they care.  First Team had 2 droboxes, 1 in the showroom and 1 in the service area for everyone to send their love.  Patients often going through cancer treatments are in cooler temperature rooms, so First Team delivered blankets to offer warmth and comfort.  The blankets are high quality and co-branded with Subaru Loves to Care and LLS logos.

Research shows that 10% of blood cancer patients are children and First Team wanted to help ensure they enjoy their childhood even when sick.  The arts & crafts kits included crayons, markers, paint, paper and more.  Utilizing the arts and crafts kit, children can express hidden emotions and reduce anxiety, depression and even pain.

First Team visited Carilion Roanoke Memorial in Roanoke Virginia.  Patients received blankets from Subaru along with Word of Hope message written by First Team Employees and First Team guests.  First Team  is happy to help and be a part of this program. Subaru and LLS appreciates every one's support and helping to make a change in these young people's lives.

Everyone at First Team wishes to congratulate Kendrick Higgins

from Grayson County High School!

He won a brand new Subaru from RAYSAC and First Team Auto Mall for attending his school's after prom party, and staying drug- and alcohol-free.

As a RAYSAC After Prom sponsor for almost 30 years, First Team fully supports RAYSAC's efforts to curb drunk driving accidents, and to keep our community safe. First Team is very proud to be a part of this great program. This year First Team donated a 2018 Subaru Impreza to the winner, Kendrick Higgins of Grayson County High School.

The After-Prom Party creates a fun and safe atmosphere for students enrolled in Roanoke County high schools. Reports from all over the area show that this year's parties were a big hit with students, who had a great time dancing and spending time with friends on this special night.

It is extremely important for schools, parents and the community to support after-prom parties for their students as they are a proven way to keep teens safe on prom night. Working toward that goal, each year First Team helps RAYSAC to saturate community members, parents and teens with reasons why students should attend and stay until the end of their school's after-prom party.

The Roanoke Area Youth Substance Abuse Coalition (RAYSAC) sponsors the After Prom Party, along with the After Prom Grand Finale with give-aways as an extra incentive for students to attend their school's After-Prom Party. In the past 29 years of After Prom Grand Finales, NONE of the participating schools have experienced the tragedy of a drunk-driving accident on the night of their prom.

Subaru Loves the Earth

First Team Subaru is committed to increasing sustainability efforts in our community and wants to offer a convenient place for you to recycle items you may normally just throw away.
This April, Subaru of America and retailers nationwide, including First Team Subaru, are launching a partnership with TerraCycle to help keep waste out of landfills and turn it into things like park benches, bike racks, and flowerpots. So far, the Zero-Waste™ Box program has diverted more than 500,000 pounds of waste from landfills. TerraCycle is eliminating the 'Idea of Waste', by recycling the non-recyclable.

First Team now has Zero Waste Boxes placed in the dealership that can be used to dispose of snack wrappers, disposable coffee cups and single use coffee pods.

Feel free to collect items at home and stop by our dealership to recycle them! And while you're here, you can grab a chip clip made from recycled snack bags as a thank you for helping keep the Roanoke Valley sustainable. (While supplies last).

Share the Love with First Team!

This year is Subaru's 50th anniversary celebration and First Team Subaru is ready to Share the Love! We were honored to work closely with Carilion Children's Hospital, part of the Children's Miracle Network and their Miracle Families to share the love even more, by using the song "Put a Little Love in your Heart" in a 30 second TV commercial and a longer video for websites and social media. First Team is proud to have chosen the Children's Miracle Network and Carilion Children's Hospital as our hometown charity. First Team Subaru is excited to double the love and match every donation to the Children's Miracle Network and Carilion Children's Hospital during the Share the Love event this year. It is our goal to continue to help those in need in our community. In the past few years we have been able to donate over $80,000, and we want to continue that success. The money goes directly towards purchasing lifesaving equipment and services that would otherwise not be available. Examples include:• Omni giraffe beds for NICU• Bedside breast milk freezers• Pediatric Transport Unit, where any operation done within the hospital can be done within the unit. During this holiday season, First Team is very thankful to share the love with our community.

First Team Subaru Loves to Care - Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
June, 2017 - Everyone should have a chance to lead a healthy life. Subaru is aiming to give as many people that chance as they can. Subaru has donated more than $4.5 million dollars to Make A Wish, helping to grant 610 wishes in the U.S over the years. This June, First Team Subaru is partnering with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Together, LLS and Subaru and  First Team Auto Mall will spread hope, love, and warmth to cancer patients through small gestures of hope. LLS and Subaru will donate over 38,000 blankets, countless messages of hope written by Subaru customers that will be sent to patients around the country.

Subaru & LLS Deliver Blankets to Cancer PatientsThe Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) was honored to partner with First Team Subaru for the Loves To Care program. Together we delivered 80 blankets, 10 arts and craft kits, and handfuls of Messages of Hope to cancer patients at Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Friday, July 7, 2017. There in the Oncology Unit, we were welcomed by a team of nurses. The delivery came as a surprise to some of them, and they were almost teary-eyed at the thought of the smiles the blankets would soon bring. We posed for another glamour shot and gave our appreciations. Thinking that was a wrap, we were pleasantly surprised when we were told that we had the opportunity to hand-deliver the blankets directly to the patients. The first patient that we touched was Ben, a bright young man who was currently undergoing chemo therapy. You could tell that he was a little reserved but genuinely appreciative of his new blanket, bracelet, and the Message of Hope that accompanied it. We then visited Mr. Sink, who was as friendly as can be. He invited us to sit right beside him on the hospital bed, as we exchanged some stories and then smiled big for the camera. He was an AML patient who was upbeat and fully determined to beat the odds. He also had the most gorgeous view of the cascading Blue Ridge Mountains outside of his window. The picturesque scenery and the newly gifted merchandise sure brightened up his day. What an incredible experience and truly remarkable program to be a part of.

First Team Subaru Loves the Earth - Certified Wildlife Habitat
April, 2017 - Subaru is working to reverse the decline of wildlife in our local community by participating in the National Wildlife Federation's Certified Wildlife Habitat Initiative along with William Byrd High School. A Certified Wildlife Habitat® provides the four basic elements that all wildlife needs to thrive: food, water, cover and places to raise young. First Team Subaru also encouraged customers to join the effort by creating their own Certified Wildlife Habitat® with seed cards provided by First Team.

First Team Subaru making donation to Roanoke Valley SPCA to offset loss due to theft

January 12, 2016 - For immediate release

On Tuesday, January 10th, three individuals entered the Roanoke Valley SPCA under the guise of needing help with food for their pets. But their real intent was to steal the donation jar sitting on the counter.

These three individuals brazenly and maliciously stole donation money from the RVSPCA, and the police are obtaining warrants for their arrest.

As a friend of the RVSPCA and the community, First Team Subaru is making a special donation of $1000 to help offset the money lost in this heinous theft. We are also replacing the stolen donation jar.

There is no way of knowing how much money was in the donation jar. According to the SPCA it costs $7 a day to provide litter for all the cats at the shelter and $25 to feed all the animals, so we at First Team are hopeful our donation will help make up for the stolen money.

We at First Team Subaru understand how important every cent is to the care and well-being of abandoned, neglected and abused animals. In the past we have hosted an adoption event with the RVSPCA at our dealership, and we continue our support now in this time of need.

"Change Your Perspective" aims to increase safety as commuting by bicycle becomes more popular

ROANOKE, Va. - RIDE Solutions, which provides alternative transportation options for the region, today kicked off a new campaign - "Change Your Perspective" - to  increase safety for both cyclists and motorists and reduce accident rates.

The Roanoke Valley has been recognized as one of the best places in the country to ride a bike - not only for exercise but also for transportation. With more cyclists on the road in the spring, there?s an increase in the possibility of accidents with cars.

Created by Neathawk Dubuque & Packett (ND&P), an advertising and public relations agency, the goal of the marketing campaign is to educate both cyclists and drivers about the laws and rules of the road, and get motorists to understand that there's a real person riding that bike - a neighbor, mother, father, boss or community leader.

"Bicyclists are not obstacles. They're real people just trying to get to their job to make a living," says Jeremy Holmes, program director of RIDE Solutions. "With this campaign, we hope to educate motorists about sharing the roadways with cyclists and making commutes safer for both parties."

"ND&P is proud to support this campaign in the Roanoke region," added Thomas Becher, senior vice president, Neathawk Dubuque & Packett. "Our goal is to educate motorists, and support cyclists' ability to commute safely in and around the region."

"The Roanoke Valley has increased on-road bicycle accommodations by over 600 percent in the last five years," added Holmes. "Recent census data shows a 150 percent increase in the number of people who cite a bicycle as their main source transportation; and of RIDE Solutions members, 18 percent say they commute by bicycle at least some of the time."

The campaign includes five illustrated posters reminiscent of transportation in a bygone era, each showing different bicycle-vehicle perspectives.
First Team Subaru is proud to be a sponsor of this important campaign, along with  Carilion Clinic, Virginia Tech, , Neathawk Dubuque & Packett, 101.5 The Music Place, the City of Roanoke, Roanoke Natural Foods Co-Op, East Coasters Bike Shop, and Roanoke Outside.

"There's a natural connection between good health and biking." said Nancy Howell Agee, president and chief executive officer of Carilion Clinic. "We also need to keep people safe while they're on our roads. As the region's Level 1 trauma center, we've seen what can happen in bike accidents. This campaign to improve bike safety is critical."

These donations have gone to support research and training, purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care, all to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.
